Northern Ireland Recieve €2M in Funding for Erasmus Scheme

Independence The Only Way to Rejoin European Union

The SNP has said “independence is the only way Scotland’s young people can once again enjoy the benefits of the European Union” – after Northern Ireland received €2million in support for students participating in the Erasmus programme.

The funds will be made available to students studying in higher education in Northern Ireland by the Irish Government.

Students in Scotland are no longer permitted to take part in the world-renowned programme, despite voting overwhelmingly against Brexit in 2016.

The SNP’s EU Accession spokesperson, Alyn Smith MP, has said for as long as Scotland remains outside of the European Union, “Scotland’s future generations will suffer”.

Commenting, Alyn Smith MP said:

“With each passing day, the evidence is clear that independence is the only way Scotland’s young people can once again enjoy the benefits of the European Union.

“As demonstrated by the Irish Government, having access to the European Union and worlds largest single market offers so many incredible learning opportunities for our young people – something that was snatched away from them in 2016.

“There can be no doubt that for as long as we remain outside of the European Union, Scotland’s future generations will suffer.

“At the next election, only the SNP are offering voters a real alternative through independence – and direct access back into the European Union.”
